Thank you to Bernice Valantinas and Jeff Roseberry for hosting today’s coffee hour.

First Congregational Church's Robinson Recital Series continues on Sunday afternoon, January 28 at 2:00 pm, with a program of chamber music involving the clarinet. Among the featured works are Mozart's "Kegelstatt" Trio in E-flat Major for clarinet, cello, and piano; Schubert's "The Shepherd on the Rock" for soprano, clarinet, and piano; and Mendelssohn's Konzertstuck in D Minor for two clarinets and piano. Performers include choir members -- clarinetists Andrew Nelson and Gary Hardesty, soprano Elizabeth Roghair, and pianist Kingsley Day.

This morning’s Offertory Anthem and Organ Postlude were composed by John Weaver, one of the America’s finest concert organists. Weaver was Director of Music at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City from 1970-2005. He was also Head of the Organ Department at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia from 1972 to 2003, and Chair of the Organ Department at The Juilliard School from 1987 to 2004.

Printed copies of Rev. Roghair’s sermons are available in the Narthex. His sermons are also posted on our website.

Joys and Concerns: Our known homebound members include: Kay Clark, Virginia France, Bud Goff, John Hands, Dixie Hoffman, Esther McGinnis, Irv Newgren, Franklin and Pat Snyder and Nina Stevens. Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.

Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group - The next meeting of the Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion group will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at 4:00 pm in the church house. Ann Vikner will lead the first of two discussions on The Team Of Rivals; ThePolitical Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. This January 14 meeting will focus on the first section of the book, chapters 1-11, the period covering the years before the first inauguration. We invite everyone who is interested to attend these informal book discussions.

Donating chancel flowers is a wonderful way to honor someone special in your life, commemorate a special occasion (perhaps a birthday or anniversary), to say thank you, or to honor the memory of a friend or family member. The chancel flowers are the two vases of flowers which sit on the communion table in the chancel. The arrangements cost $35 - $50. Donations are acknowledged in the Sunday bulletin. For more information or to make a donation, contact the church office at 847 864-8332.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the First Congregational Church, or wish to know more about our church, please call the office at (847) 864 – 8332, or send an email to firstcongo@mcleodusa.net. Thank You!
