The rose in the chancel is a “peace rose” It sits on the communion table to symbolize our prayers for peace in a troubled world.

Sunday Afternoon Book Discussion Group - On Sunday afternoon, April 15th at 4:00 pm the Book Discussion Group will meet in the Brown parlor to discuss: TERRORIST by John Updike. Glennis Lundberg will lead the discussion. John Updike’s novels have won many awards including the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. This book is about Ahmad Ashaway, an 18-year-old, who is in the thrall of Shaikh Rashik who runs a store front mosque and preaches divine retribution for “devil.” Everyone is welcome join this informal discussion.
Joys and Concerns: Our thoughts are with Robert Grant as he recovers from surgery. Our sympathy is extended to the family of Joan Lindsey on the death of her sister. Our known homebound members include: Kay Clark, Virginia France, Bud Goff, John Hands, Dixie Hoffman, Esther McGinnis, Irv Newgren, Franklin and Pat Snyder and Nina Stevens. Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.
Our featured composer today is Gilbert Martin who was born in Southbridge, Massachusetts, in 1941. Martin is currently a free lance composer and an editor of choral music. He received a B. Mus. from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, N.J., and was recently honored at Westminster as a distinguished composer and graduate. His anthem “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” was composed for the 1968 graduating class of Westminster Choir College.
Donations - Rummage/Treasure Sale - We are able to keep up with the donations and it is great to see all the new things come in. Therefore, we are anxious for more and more items for all the departments. Need help bringing over donations? Call Eric Erickson at (847) 328-9095. The Membership Team is continuing its work providing care to our congregation. The new contact person is Heather Disabato. Please call Heather at (847) 475-4331 with concerns, ideas, suggestions, or if you would like to help.
You are invited to join the virtual prayer circle at First Congregational Church. It is a wonderful way to develop a richer prayer life and stay connected to the needs of those in our congregation and around us. An e-mail is sent around weekly or so with a list of people to pray for and a suggested prayer for the week. If you are interested in being part of the church's virtual prayer circle or if you have a prayer concern you would like to offer up, please send a note to joysandconcerns@gmail.com. Donating chancel flowers is a wonderful way to honor someone special in your life, commemorate a special occasion (perhaps a birthday or anniversary), to say thank you, or to honor the memory of a friend or family member. The chancel flowers sit on the communion table in the chancel. The arrangement costs $45. Donations are acknowledged in the Sunday bulletin. Good Friday Service – We are invited to the Good Friday service (April 6th) at First United Methodist (at Hinman and Church). The service begins at 7:30 pm. Rev. Roghair will be a part of this service.
READY, SET, GO....SELL PIZZA!!!
This year we will have an all church fundraiser selling Chicago's Legendary Gino's East Deep Dish Pizza! It will be fun and simple. You will be given an order form to take orders and collect the $10.00 per pizza ahead of time. We will be selling the four different pizzas from April 8-22, 2007. The pizza will be delivered to the church on Sunday May 6, 2007 for you to pick up and deliver to your customers.
Prizes will be awarded to the family or individual who sells the most pizza.
Everyone should have a supply of these delicious pizzas in their home freezer for a quick meal or when company stops by.

“Can Our Grandkids Trust Us? Evanston and Global Warming”
Please join the Network for Evanston’s Future for our annual Earth Month forum on Sunday, April 29th (2:00 – 5:00 PM). This year’s event is an action-oriented discussion of what Evanston can do to counter global warming.
The keynote speaker is Dave Cieslewicz, Mayor of Madison, Wisconsin. Madison’s municipal government has not only taken innovative steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but has actively partnered with its citizenry in this effort. Following last year’s appearance, Evanston’s City Manager Julia Carroll will also speak, presenting her first annual report on Evanston’s progress toward sustainability.
Break out groups will feature a variety of opportunities to translate ideas into action here in Evanston. Topics will include transportation, energy, and housing issues; greening congregations and businesses; a production-level organic farm; water and food sources; and ecology for middle and high school students.
The afternoon’s discussions will be capped off by the presentation of the Network’s first annual sustainability award honoring the Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation for building a LEED-certified synagogue.
