ANNOUNCEMENTS
The rose in the chancel is a “peace rose.” It symbolizes our prayers for peace in a troubled world.
The chancel flowers are given in celebration of the life of William A. Stringfellow, father of Laura Wilson.
The lay reader today is Merna Johnson.
The greeters today are Ann Vikner and Laura Wilson.
You are welcomed and seated today by Joyce and Bob Phelps, Sandy Whiteley and Steve Wilson.
Thank you to Betty Phillips for hosting today’s Coffee Hour.
Thanks to Ruth Robinson for sharing her music with us today. Today’s prelude, offertory, and postlude feature the music of Johann Pachelbel. Pachelbel (1653 – 1706) was a German Baroque composer, organist and teacher who brought the south German style of organ composition to its peak. Today he is best known for his “Canon in D”. Canon is a term that describes a compositional style. Pachelbel’s “Canon” is based on an 8 note theme or melody which is heard in the bass line or lowest voice. This bass theme is repeated while other voices harmonize and accompany the bass melody.
Joys and Concerns: Our thoughts are with Robert Grant who is ill at home. Our known homebound members include: Kay Clark, Virginia France, Bud Goff, John Hands, Dixie Hoffman, Esther McGinnis, Irv Newgren, Franklin and Pat Snyder and Nina Stevens. Please inform the pastor or church office if we have missed anyone.
Donating chancel flowers is a wonderful way to honor someone special in your life, commemorate a special occasion (perhaps a birthday or anniversary), to say thank you, or to honor the memory of a friend or family member. The chancel flowers sit on the communion table in the chancel. The flowers cost $45. Donations are acknowledged in the Sunday bulletin. For more information or to make a donation, contact the church office at 847 864-8332.
At Ten Thousand Villages on Main Street we need new volunteers. Some of our faithful crew have graduated from high school or college and will not be returning this summer. Call the store at 847-733-8258 or drop in to pick up an application. Our volunteers have a lot of fun working in the store, and are rewarded by knowing how many people are able to escape poverty because they are helping. Our customers are the best, and it's fun to work with them, too. Don't miss this great opportunity to work in the best store around (that's what our customers say.) You even get a discount on purchases!
Rummage TREASURE Sale News The “Treasure Room” at the Church House is receiving donations of a variety of things and donations require sorting, evaluating and, in some cases, refurbishing. Joan Lindsey is our worker of the week. Talk about attitude! Some lovely clean, lightly used white curtains just came in. Joan insisted on taking them home for washing and other tender loving care. The result? Wonderful. Come see for yourself.
Toys are always winners at our September sale. This year we have a bumper crop of “like new” donated toys. A store full in fact. Jim Dana and Brian Connors have been our most bountiful donors. And by the way, today (June 17) is a good day to greet Jim and Kathy Dana if you get a chance. They are off to new positions in Massachusetts on June 25th. How we shall miss them! ~ Joyce Phelps
Attention all teens!!

this summer, please contact Kingsley Day at kday@northwestern.edu
You are invited to join the virtual prayer circle at First Congregational Church. It is a wonderful way to develop a richer prayer life and stay connected to the needs of those in our congregation and around us. An e-mail is sent around weekly or so with a list of people to pray for and a suggested prayer for the week. If you are interested in being part of the church's virtual prayer circle or if you have a prayer concern you would like to offer up, please send a note to joysandconcerns@gmail.com. We want to respect privacy so we ask that you seek a person's permission before offering up their needs for prayer. We look forward to hearing from you! Pam Daniels, Prayer Circle Coordinator.
