Kids in Church

We love children at First Congregational! They enrich our time together, add spiritual energy, share fresh perspectives, and help us truly feel like one big church family.  Please don't fret about coos or cries during the service. All ages are welcome here. We offer a variety of ways that young worshipers can participate on Sunday mornings.

Sanctuary: Babies, toddlers, and children are always welcome to stay with their families during worship. Feel free to sit in the rocking chair area when you first enter the sanctuary, or borrow books, crayons, and coloring sheets to take with you to your pew.

Children’s Moment: On many Sundays, children are invited to join Minister Eda Uca at the front of the sanctuary for a special message just for them. Using illustrations, picture books, and dialog with the children, Liz tries to connect Scripture and faith to kids’ real lives.

Sunday School: Children ages 5-12 join their parents for the first part of the service and are then dismissed to go with the volunteer teachers to the Church House (1417 Hinman), ½ block south of the Sanctuary. Teachers will bring the children back to the sanctuary during fellowship time following the service. Parents are always welcome to accompany their children to Sunday School. And of course, children are welcome to stay with their families for the entirety of the service if they wish. For more about Sunday School and other activities for youth and children, click here.

Nursery: Families with children ages 4 and under are welcome to drop off babies, toddlers and preschoolers to our nursery staffed by our Nursery Supervisor, Kelly Tran. Kelly provides a warm, safe, and fun place for little ones to play during the service. There is also a changing table located in the nursery that families are welcome to use.
